Horse Girl

This little painting is older yet from 2010. It  is influenced some by the shamanic paintings of Susan Seddon Boulet.

Approximately 8 1/2" x 11", it began with a pencil drawing. I added color with melted oil pastels and gouache (white). It is an original drawing.

I didn't "finish" it.

Well,  perhaps I have. I like its ethereal quality.

I particularly like the fine tendrils of mane and forelock that stand away from the top of the horse's head--almost like they are emanating energy or electricity.

In contrast, the woman is calm, grounded and steady, and you can see the suggestion of a bit in her mouth. The horse's mane is loose and flying. The woman's hair is pulled up and back... firmly. Controlled. The horse's hoof rests upon her hand. They are One, yet...

Is the horse just a projection of the woman's state of mind? Is it a costume or a skin? Are they one creature?

I leave that up to you.

To the left, in black in white, is the original pencil drawing that this little piece began with.
